GoPro helmet cam

Thats me racing with my gopro helmet cam. Got some great footage. I got the camera for free through a sponsership

How is the wind noise on that camera? I have the Vholdr and the wind noise is terrible. I even tried to move the mic but it still picks up wind noise and now you can't hear a word I say! It's just muffled but still wind noise!

Looking forward to 2013!!

It's not to bad. Your gunna get a bit of wind noise probably no matter what you do. In the footage i have its not that noticable though. You can hear the sled more than anything else.

got same camera. got same prob. i hear the HD one they got out now is suppose to be better. if you can turn down volume with software your using and then play music over it. you wont here any wind noisewhen you play vid. of course not good if you want to hear what your saying.

You can get free programs online that, once you have it converted to avi, you can strip out the audio and add music.

The GoPro is better at noise reduction because the waterproof case isolates it some.

For the contour, if you are daring you can open it and add an external mic wire and then use your own external mic. Youtube has some videos of people doing that and they sound great with the external mic with wind cutter end on them.

Yeah that's my next course of action. I tried wrapping the internal mic in foam but all that did was muffle any thing you try to say and still picks up wind noise. As for the HD, still the same problem. Gonna try the external mic mod. What type of mic should I use though?

First just put in the right size jack for your needs.
From there you can pick any mic that fits the jack and they are all cheap.

Some folks get one that goes right up in their helmet.
Others use one that have the poof ball on the ends to cut noise.

Video How-To Example - Though I would not use the old mic. I would put it out to a jack.
That lets you swap microphones.

Yeah I watched that guys video. Seems to work pretty well. Not sure if I'm that good at soldering though.

The second video was just to show you how to take it all apart.
You just need two solders and you don't need to shrink wrap if you snip a prebuilt connector.

Just take something like this and snip off the plug end and strip the wires back.
Soldering them to the two spots he showed and then running the wire outside the cam.
It is already pre-wrapped and wired. Just two solders to the board and you are good to go.

Did you see how small those solders are? I really suck at soldering and I think I'd probably screw something up. Not sure how mics work but could you use a mic from, say, one that plugs into a computer mic port?

Yes. once you put in the standard audio jack female end, any microphone with the standard male end will work.

Finally getting some use on our GoPro...(only had it about 4 years now)I like it better mounted to the sled,rather than my helmet...I'd suggest if you wanted a helmet cam, to spend the extra $$ & get a good one...just sayin...Hey Brad congrats on the sponsorship from GoPro...I'm still waiting to hear from them

I've found a place online selling the HD Hero for $225 ($75 off) and am sooooo close to getting it. Just concerned about helmet mount due to modular.

Here's a quick clip to show what the sound is like on helmet mount. This is the Motorsports HD Hero with the waterproof case on. There are a ton of ways to mount on the sleds. Just depends on which way it is facing and what resolution setting it is on to get the best picture. The sound is great, but like anything, the faster you go the more wind noise it will eventually pick up.

Hey Shawn I dont have any pics of the istallation but GoPro has so many different ways you can attach to anything...I have it on a closedface helmet~I just didnt like the footage from the helmet~looked better from the sled...

I cant figure out how to add video on here??

You have to be a paying member here to post video's to your albun.

Or, just post them up to Youtube and put in the URl for us to watch.

We had almost ZERO snow this year. It sucked big time. But, we did get out for two days of local riding a couple weekends ago after a freak March snowstorm.

We did nighttime Underglow videos with my GoPro. I'l be getting a Hero2 this year.
